I’m back

10 Nov

First lesson: Don’t make blogging just another mission in your life, especially if you’re already overbooked.

After 8 months of silence over the web, I decided I should just write about what happens in my life… so much happens there anyway.

During these 8 months I made a huge change in my career: quit my (safe) army job, and dived into the troubled water of the civilian life. To my surprise it was much easier than I thought… I felt so natural. Apparently, it should have happened.

The new (cool) title that came with that change was Director of Interaction Design. I work in a small firm that designs cool user interfaces for desktop, web and mobile applications. I love getting up in the morning…

Just before the big career change, I committed myself to two new software projects: a flash-based casual game and a browser-based application.

Why? For many reasons. I wanted to work on something I loved. I wanted to set a vision and lead a great team to accomplish it. I wanted to challenge myself. I wanted to leave a digital mark. I wanted to make a product other people will love to use. I wanted to make people happy.

So after 8 months (or so), I’m still leading these 2 moonlight projects. The guys working on them do it for the fun, for the experience, for the partnership. Every team member has a day job. Nobody gets paid and nobody expects money will flow shortly. But every member makes his best effort to realize the projects. And we are really close to realizing both.

It’s not easy. But it’s very rewarding.

And the journey continues…
